Applying to our Externship Program
Our 2019-2020 Externship is full. To be the first to know when applications open for our next cohort, add your contact information to the wait list below.
Story and relationship are core aspects of our ethos and central to our admissions process. We look forward to getting to know you and to learning more about what is drawing you to training at The Allender Center.
Our Admissions Counselor, Mary Krambeer, works closely with certificate program applicants and looks forward to journeying with you —whether you are exploring or ready to apply! You can connect with Mary via email (firstname.lastname@example.org) or phone (206.876.6149).
Submit an Online Application
Applications will be received through April 25. The online application requires approximately 30 minutes and must be completed in one sitting. A $50 application fee is required to complete the application. Applicants will be asked to provide some basic contact information and respond to questions about their desire to participate in the Externship program, understanding of the Allender Theory of story engagement, and how they have been utilizing it in their work with others.
Provide a Reference
Within the online application form applicants will be prompted to select either a Seattle School faculty member or Training Certificate Level II trainer from the comprehensive directory within the application as a reference. Admissions will email your reference directly with a custom recommendation form.
Submit a Story Engagement
Once an online application form has been received, our Admissions Counselor Mary Krambeer will send applicants a Story Engagement Assignment that includes a written personal narrative and instructions for how to interact and respond to the narrative. All Story Engagement documents must be submitted to email@example.com no later than May 3.
The final step in the application process is participating in a group interview. Group interviews will take place regionally, in Seattle, and online via Zoom during the month of May. Our hope in these interviews is to create space to learn more about who you are and what you hope to gain from participating in our externship training.
All Seattle interviews will take place at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology located at 2501 Elliott Avenue in the Belltown neighborhood of Seattle.
We believe this work is sacred and because of the capacity required to engage in this level of work we are thoughtful in our review process and cannot guarantee that every applicant will be admitted. We work to be transparent throughout the process and will notify applicants within 4-6 of interview completion.
Eligibility & Dual Relationships
To be eligible to apply for our Externship program you must be a graduate of The Seattle School or Training Certificates Level II at The Allender Center.
You are ineligible for the Externship program if you, your spouse/partner, or child/dependent are in a current client-therapist relationships with an Externship Trainer or if you have terminated with an Externship Trainer less than one year prior to admittance to the program. The Externship training team is subject to change annually and will be announced prior to applications opening to provide time for you to discern your eligibility.
Costs & Payment Options
Tuition for this year-long training is $4,450. A $500 deposit is due at the time of enrollment to secure your seat in the training. The remaining balance may be paid in full or in two or four installments.
We are committed to keeping the cost of this training as accessible as we are able. We have tremendous gratitude for the investment of our donors who make it possible for us to offer this high-touch, immersive experience. Additionally, a limited number of scholarships are available for those experiencing financial hardship. Applicants may request a scholarship within the application form.
Travel & Lodging
Participants are responsible for booking their own travel and lodging. The Allender Center at The Seattle School is located at 2501 Elliott Avenue in downtown Seattle, WA. We negotiate room blocks at several area hotels. These opportunities will be released late spring. Some participants room with fellow participants to reduce accommodation costs.
