Learn the Art of Holding a Story

“I could never forgive myself. It was my fault.”
“I’ll never let someone hurt me like that again.”
“I just try not to go there.”

We hear words of contempt like these in the stories people share with us. They carry pain, protection, and, at times, a quiet sense of finality. So what do we do when we hear them?

In this live, online, half-day training led by Allender Center Lead Instructor Rachael Clinton Chen, MDiv, you’ll explore how contempt can form as a response to unresolved harm, and how to stay present to both the pain and the humanity within a story.

This 4-hour session includes live teaching from Rachael, a viewing of a recorded story engagement, and a guided walkthrough of how she listened, discerned, and responded in real time. You will also have space to ask questions in an interactive Q&A time.

This is an invitation to stay present to the stories we often turn away from, and to see what becomes possible when they are met with care.

Join Both and Gain a Broader Perspective on Story Engagement
