Application Process

Submit an Online Application

The online application requires approximately 30 minutes and must be completed in one sitting. A $50 application fee is required to complete the application. Applicants will be asked to provide some basic contact information and respond to questions about their desire to participate in the Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program, understanding of the Allender Theory of story engagement, and how they have been utilizing it in their work with others.

Provide a Reference

When prompted to submit a reference, please list one of the following. For those who have completed the Certificate in Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level II, please list your Level II facilitator. For alumni from one of the graduate degree programs at The Seattle School, please list one of your previous professors in that program. Our Admissions team will email your reference directly with a custom recommendation form.

Submit a Story Engagement

Once an online application form has been received, our Admissions team will send applicants a Story Engagement Assignment that includes a written personal narrative and instructions for how to interact and respond to the narrative. All Story Engagement documents must be submitted to admissions@theallendercenter.org prior to scheduling your group interview.

Interview

The final step in the application process is participating in a group interview. Group interviews will take place online via Zoom. Our hope in these interviews is to create space to learn more about who you are and what you hope to gain from participating in the Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program. We will invite you to interview upon submission of your Story Engagement essay.

Interview dates and times for the Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program will be posted soon.

Notification

Because we believe that this work is sacred and because of the capacity required to engage in this level of work, we are thoughtful in our review process and cannot guarantee that every applicant will be admitted. We work to be transparent throughout the process and will notify applicants of their admissions decision within 2-3 weeks of completing their interview.

Eligibility & Dual Relationships

To be eligible to apply for our Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program, you must be a graduate of The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology or have completed The Allender Center’s Certificate in Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level II (previously titled Training Certificate Level II).

The Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program is a small cohort, and every effort is made to place participants in small groups separate from identified dual relationships. However, if you are in a current client-therapist relationship with a Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III trainer, or if you have terminated your work together less than one year prior to program admittance, discernment is encouraged to determine whether or not this is an appropriate shared environment. Collective teaching sessions include personal data, stories, and relational engagement from the Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III training team members.

To identify potential dual relationships, the 2022-23 Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III training team is formed annually from our Teaching Staff and Training & Pastoral Team members. If you are accepted to the program prior to the complete Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III team being announced, and you later identify a client-therapist relationship that would preclude your participation, you are eligible to withdraw and receive a full refund of all application and enrollment fees paid.

Costs & Payment Options

Tuition for this year-long training is $4,995. A $500 deposit is due at the time of enrollment to secure your seat in the training. The remaining balance may be paid in full or in two or four installments.

We are committed to keeping the cost of this training as accessible as possible. We offer a limited number of scholarships for those experiencing financial hardship as well as multicultural scholarships for applicants from underrepresented racial or ethnic communities. Applicants may request to be considered for these scholarships within the application form.
If you wish to apply for a scholarship, please indicate so on the application form and then respond to the following prompts in 500 words or less:

What kind of impact do you imagine that receiving this training in the Narrative Focused Trauma Care Level III program would have on you, your work, and/or your community? Please share anything regarding your financial situation that we should take into consideration when reviewing your scholarship request.

Please submit your response as a short essay to admissions@theallendercenter.org.
