As a pastor and theologian, my research involves taking seriously the impact of trauma and abuse with regard to spiritual formation, which includes including discipleship, biblical imagination, doctrine, and theology. The affects of trauma are holistic and disorder not only the body and the psyche, but also one’s capacity to conceive of God. I want to learn how we can equip pastors and lay leaders to journey well with their own trauma as well as those disordered by trauma and abuse, as well as how we can better articulate and understand the story of God and our invitation to participate in and with it in ways that are closer to the healing, integrative and holistic gospel intrinsic to our faith.

I have a private practice in the Seattle area. My work for the Allender Center focuses on the impact of abuse on men and their marriages. Additionally, I have facilitated multiple conferences for MHGS (Mens Recovery Week 2, Sabbath Weekend, Intimate Mystery Marriage Conference).

I graduated from MHGS in 2006 with an MA in Counseling Psychology. I currently have a private practice in Seattle, WA and have been greatly honored to act as facilitator in various Seattle School workshops and conferences. In addition to working with amazing people involved in the creation of the Allender Center, what I enjoy and feel compelled toward in my work and in this externship is working with women to reclaim what is true, good, and beautiful about who they are in their stories.

I am currently entering my fifth year as a therapist in private practice. I have been fortunate to work with men and women of varied backgrounds and reasons for seeking therapy, which has afforded me a broad range of therapeutic experiences. One of the benefits of this is the creation of a context to highlight and explore pervasive themes that I feel drawn to, and called to address. Something of a developing specialty that I anticipate bringing to the Allender Center is the work of identifying and engaging areas of abuse and trauma that are perceived as less severe or perhaps more subtle and therefore get overlooked as significant, orienting narratives in people’s lives.

I have been working as a crisis Child and Family Therapist for the past three years. In this work I encounter youth and their families during moments of trauma, grief, distress, chaos, and defiance. During this time I have specialized in addressing attachment issues, especially with adopted and foster children, helping their parents and caregivers learn how to translate aggressive behaviors to meaning making. In my private practice I specialize in working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. In both realms I encounter those who have felt that their most tender, precious, and vulnerable aspects of self have been exploited or shattered. I am a privileged woman to walk these roads with my clients.

I graduated from MHGS in 2007 with an MA in Counseling Psychology. I currently have private practice within the Seattle area. For the last 6 years my work as a therapist/ministry has focused on men, sexual addiction, sexual abuse, and the overall impact of addictions. As a therapist, this work has been and is a complete honor to me. I’ve also been privileged to serve both men and women within the MHGS conferences (Men’s Recovery Week, Sabbath Weekend, and Marriage Recovery Week). My area of focus within the Dan Allender Center will be around men’s engagement of not just their stories, but engaging and caring for their youth within their stories. This will also allow me to further work on helping men engage the impact of sexual abuse, addiction, and trauma. My futher work with the Allender Center will also include work with African-American men.
